Its been a long while since I updated my blog... sorry for the silence! I have been working on my new collection of Bodysgallen Hall, North Wales, and also doing a number of commissions.
I would like to spend some time soon just experimenting and doodling, but the commissions keep coming in! Not that I am complaining... each one is a challenge, and different from the next. You really have to look at your subject and think about ways to describe it in a unique way.
I tend to work with a lot of water (it is watercolour!!) but that means letting go and sometimes allowing the picture to paint itself. Its good to have some kind of idea before you start as to what you want to achieve, and to this end I try to gather as much material visually as I can. I never work slavishly from photographs, but rather use them as a reference, along with sketches, and anything else that will jog my memory. Once the painting starts, I tend to paint intuitively, and to an extent see what happens!
So, off to finish some daffodils now.....
