Bodysgallen Hall

It has recently been my pleasure to complete five paintings of Bodysgallen Hall, which is a Manor House found in the borough of Conwy, North Wales. A Grade I listed building it is now owned and run by the National Trust. It is a joy to visit there; to wander the extensive grounds, with far reaching views of the Carneddau mountain range.

The house itself dates mainly from 1620 and the 17th century. Originally it was constructed as a tower house in the Middle Ages, to serve as defensive support for the nearby Conwy castle. The house itself has that kind of faded ambience of comfort and good taste. Surrounding the house are formal gardens, which comprise terraces, a rose garden, topiary mazes and a lily pond, among other features.

Limited edition prints of these paintings are available both here on my site or at the hall itself, along with folded cards that come individually with an envelope in a plastic sleeve. The paintings are priced individually and are available by contacting me.

Bodnant Garden

Bodnant Garden (Welsh: Gardd Bodnant) is a National Trust property near Tal-y-Cafn, in the county borough of Conwy, North Wales. The gardens are situated above the River Conwy and overlooks the Conwy valley towards the Carneddau mountain range. They are completely stunning, and full of natural beauty.

Conwy

Conwy, a walled market town in North Wales, is dominated by Conwy Castle built by Edward 1st in 1283-1289. It is therefore a town steeped in History, and ravishing to paint. For example, Plas Mawr is widely regarded as the oldest Elizabethan Town House of its type in the UK, and of course The Smallest House is to be found there too. Conwy Parish Church was originally the Cistercian Abbey of Aberconwy, whose foundations were marked out in 1172 AD. This was the burial place of many of the Princes of Gwynedd, including Llywelyn the Great and his sons, Dafydd and Gruffydd.

The complete Conwy collection is available as a pack of 12 postcards for £20 + postage.

Eglwysbach

Eglwysbach is my local village in the borough of Conwy, which lies less than a mile from the gardens. The village is renowned for the annual Eglwysbach agricultural and horticultural show in August. Eglwys St. Martin's Church dates back to 1254 and is named after St. Martin, the Patron saint of soldiers. The village sits in a hollow below the hills of Moel Gyffylog, Mwdwl Eithin, and Mynydd Esgair Ebrill; several streams run down the steep hillside including the Nant y Rhaglaw, and the Afon Hiraethlyn.

Plas Brynkir

The book on the historically important Welsh country house Plas Brynkir (Dolbenmaen, Gwynedd) is now available to buy. One of my paintings of the Estate is in the forward to the book. The Estate dates back to the 13th century to the time of Prince Llywelyn the Great, and in fact evidence of this was found in an archaeological dig at the Estate last year. Historians working on the project believe Llywelyn may have used the park for entertaining foreign dignitaries and to forge alliances. The beautiful Manor House, which now lies in ruins, was once at the centre of an 8,000 acre Estate. The original paintings are now all available to buy, except for the Spiral Staircase which has been raffled for the charity. Limited edition prints are available in both sizes, as are packs of all seven paintings as postcards. For more information and to order please contact me.
